I miss travelling.
I haven’t done half as much travelling as I planned In 2014. Not even half.
The rush of new experiences and beautiful spaces, learning about new cultures and SAVORING life everyday. Don’t you just love that feeling?
I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who has ever thought my life would be better, shinier.. more glamorous or more exciting if I did x, y or z – more money, more travel, met new people… the list is endless. I made a vow to myself to do the absolute MOST with what I have. NOW.
Not to give into the temptation to live on in Brian Tracy’s words ‘Someday Isle’ i.e. ‘Someday I’ll be rich … Someday I’ll be skinny… Someday I’ll travel more’. One of my best friends (and business partner) calls it ‘the discipline of gratitude’.
Imagine if you lived your daily life with the same lust for life and passionate detail you have when you travel or enjoy a new experience. This is my plan on how to do just that.
First Rule: It’s All In Your Mind. Savor Every Moment.
As cliched as it sounds, its true. The moment you think in a defeatist or despondent manner. That’s it. I’ve had to train my mind to stay positive and focused on the important stuff. I try to take the time out to enjoy something small and otherwise unnoticed everyday. Like the view from my living room whilst I enjoy my morning coffee!
Second: Say No to Cynicism. Being a cynic is easy – living life with hope and joy everyday is the real challenge.
Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it. Because cynics don’t learn anything. Because cynicism is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt us or disappoint us. Cynics always say no. But saying “yes” begins things. Saying “yes” is how things grow. Saying “yes” leads to knowledge. “Yes” is for young people. So for as long as you have the strength to, say “yes’.”
Third: Enrich Your Life with Food, Beauty, Art and Music.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Surround yourself with great books, delicious wine *hic* , art, flowers and soul stirring music. Exprience and learn new things as often as you can. Spontaneity is your best friend guys!
My (current) favourite white here. Dry and delicious, easy to enjoy.
